What is rotary furnace?

Jun 28,2021

Rotary furnace is a kind of thermal equipment for calcining, roasting or drying granular and powdery materials.

As a conventional kiln type, rotary furnace has existed for more than 100 years, but they are all large or super large. They are mainly used in the primary rough processing of powder or mineral materials, such as the sintering and calcination of cement clinker, the preparation of titanium dioxide from kaolin, and the processing of rare earth industry. Although the output is very large, there are some disadvantages such as large temperature difference, low precision of temperature control, unable to seal and realize accurate atmosphere control.

Rotary furnace can rotate forward and reverse, with fast and slow driving device. There is a limit position for both positive and negative directions.

The limit position of forward rotation is the slag pouring position, and the reverse limit position is the position of copper water casting. In order to operate conveniently, oxidation and reduction positions, heat preservation positions and feeding positions are also set.

When the furnace feeding, slag pouring, oxidation, reduction, the use of fast drive; when casting, use slow drive. At the same time, in order to avoid accidents caused by sudden power failure when the rotary furnace is in the non insulation position, the accident driving motor is also set to ensure the rotary furnace to rotate to the heat preservation position safely.

The furnace body of the rotary furnace is a long steel cylinder lined with refractory materials. The furnace body is supported on several pairs of supporting wheels with an inclination of 3% - 6%. The furnace body rotates slowly driven by the motor through gears. The material is added from the higher end and discharged from the lower end. Fuel (pulverized coal, heavy oil or gas fuel) is injected into the furnace head end, which is burned in the furnace, and the flue gas is discharged from the higher end (material and flue gas countercurrent).

It is mainly used for calcining cement clinker in cement industry, calcining granular and powdery materials in refractory and ceramic industry and drying various raw materials in the above industries. It is widely used in chemical industry for drying, dehydration and roasting materials.
